Sleepwalking staff shed light on homelessness for Shelter
Creditfix helps hundreds of people with their debts every day, but that’s not all we’ve been up to.
Each year we pledge our support to a selected charity organisation and work hard throughout the year to raise enough cash for the cause.
This year, we gave our backing to homelessness charity, Shelter with the aim of donating £10,000 to the respected organisation.
To end a year of fundraising efforts, our team took part in Shelter’s inaugural Sleepwalk which saw more than 80 people take to the streets of Glasgow in a bid to show solidarity against homelessness.
The five-mile route began at Shelter’s community hub on Osbourne Street, and took the team of determined walkers throughout the city, passing iconic sites such as Glasgow Cathedral and along the Clyde side to their finish line at their store on Union Street.
Speaking of the event, Creditfix Charity Liaison Officer, Danny Knox, said: “We’re very proud to have been able to support Shelter throughout the year with their campaigns.
“As a company, we deal with hundreds of people every day who are in difficult positions when it comes to their homes, and we understand that circumstances can change, putting a lot of people under great financial strain.
“We’re always looking to give back in any way that we can, and the Sleepwalk was a great way for us to end a year of fundraising”
The event’s Just Giving page totalled at £570, with even more funds raised offline by those involved. Final figures for the total amount raised have yet to be announced.
The Creditfix team raised £610, however, instead of putting this towards our annual fundraising goal, we decided to use this money a little differently.
We bought bag loads of hats, scarves, gloves and sleeping bags; which were then donated to fellow homelessness charity, Simon Community at Shelter’s request. Frontline staff and volunteers from the Simon Community took to the streets of Glasgow to distribute the items to those most in need, offering support and compassion along the way.
Community Fundraiser, Emma Jackson said: “Thank you to the team from Creditfix and everyone who took part in Shelter Scotland’s first ever Sleepwalk in Glasgow, vital funds were raised as well as raising awareness of the charity’s campaign to end our housing emergency.
“We’re already looking forward to next year with the question, can we make Sleepwalk bigger and better in 2020?”
Shelter’s mantra is that everyone should have the right to a safe home, and its staff and supporters work endlessly to defend that right.
The organisation offers legal services and advice for people across the UK who are suffering from homelessness, living in poor housing or living in poverty. People threatened with eviction can also turn to the charity for support and advice on topics such as unfair rent and discrimination.
Shelter believe that having a safe home is as important as your education or your health. It’s not just about having a roof over your head, it’s about having somewhere that’s secure and affordable.
It aims to cut off people’s suffering at the source and end the national emergency, campaigning to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to them for help.
